Most diet sodas contain aspartame

"Whole-wheat rotis, nuts, fruits, oatmeal, fresh-pressed juices — are all healthy, but they are not without calories. "When the body is hungry and craving food many people try to suppress hunger by having a diet soda which is very wrong.Nutrition is an essential element of healthy living. It does not matter what time of day you eat.Nutrition bars are nutritiousTruth: Most nutrition bars in reality are calorie bars dressed up in nothing but healthy catch words. These sodas cause insulin resistance and backfire on the sugar cravings. But truth be told, the humble spinach and even lettuce beat the alleged super green, in a nutrition study held recently.”It’s OK to eat whatever you want during pregnancyTruth: Sorry ladies! ‘Eating for two’ is just a myth. Called "space food sticks”, in 1960’s, they were basically non-frozen snacks that provided both energy and nutrition to astronauts who could fit them comfortably in their helmets.Myths, half-truths and wives’ tales persist in health and nutrition. The fluid and electrolytes you lose through sweat are easily, and more healthfully, replaced with lemon water or a fruit juice.

According to Rajeswari Shetty, head of dietetics at Fortis SL Raheja Hospital, Mumbai, buying organic fruits and vegetables may help you dodge pesticides (which can cause some tummy trouble), but there’s no convincing evidence that conventional and organic produce are different in nutritional composition. Chances are you will stumble across several myths you have always believed. And guess who pays for that? You. It hasn’t helped that numerous celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow and Lady Gaga propagate a gluten-free diet. In fact, metric nuts Manufacturers they’re actually quite high — half an avocado is 161 calories and 18 cashews are 163 calories. But it may not help if we eat a lot more calories than you burn off, warns Dr Shetty. Everyday a new headline pronounces a certain food as "bad”, while praising another food item for its "amazing benefits”. Kale is the healthiest green (read super food)Truth: In the world of food this green, curly leaf is the Shakira of salads and the Lady Gaga of leafy greens.”Brown eggs are more nutritious than white eggsTruth: This just stems from the notion that brown is always better (pasta, flour, bread, you know the drill). It’s best to avoid them, unless while on travel or when you are unavailable to find real food,” advises Dr Hooda. This means you can’t mindlessly eat what you like just because it’s healthy. Everyday a new headline pronounces a certain food as "bad”, while praising another food item for its "amazing benefits”.”A sports drink is necessary if you are running, playing soccer or in the heatTruth: That holds true only if you are an athlete working out intensely for more than an hour at a time, corrects clinical nutritionist Kanchan Patwardhan.Wheat is wickedTruth: Wheat happens to be the most demonised food in recent times.. So giving in to each and every craving that strikes may not be a good idea. Cauliflower, cabbage, lettuce and even brussel sprouts, all belong to the same family and are just as nutritious as kale,” stresses Dr Shetty. Rejectingwhole grains completely may even lead to weight gain. we speak to experts to separate the science from the sillinessNutrition is an essential element of healthy living. But do brown eggs pack more nutrients than their white counterparts? "The nutritional content between brown eggs and white eggs is exactly the same; the difference is just the colour of the shell,” explains Dr Hooda. "If you are not, you do not need a sports drink during or after exercising.Diet Sodas help keep you slimTruth: Diet sodas are actually very unhealthy, believes Dr Anjali Hooda Sangwan, a clinical nutritionist. That’s because wheat boosts the level of the feel-good chemical serotonin in the brain, so if you skip them, chances are you will feel unsatisfied and end up snacking unnecessarily,” reveals clinical nutritionist Kanchan Patwardhan.

Most diet sodas contain aspartame, which has been linked to cancer in some studies. If you eat anything or everything, you will put yourself at risk for gestational diabetes and hypertension during pregnancy which may lead to premature birth. It’s as simple as that. But the fact remains that wheat is a good source of fibre, vitamins and minerals. "Nutrition bars are very dense in calories, especially sugars, and can make you gain weight.Carbs At Night Will Make You FatTruth: Calories are calories and it doesn’t matter what time you eat them. A recent study by Stanford scientists found very few differences in the nutritional content of organic and conventionally grown foods. The differences that do exist are so small that they’re unlikely to influence the health of the people who chose to buy organic foods. It is what and how much you eat and how much physical activity you do during the whole day that determines whether you gain, lose, or maintain your weight,” explains Dr Shetty. If you like the taste of flavoured beverages, try adding chunks of fruit to season your water,” she adds. Brown feather chickens lay brown eggs. You can eat as much as you want as long as it’s healthyTruth: Healthy food like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins and non-fat dairy products have a lot fewer calories than the less healthy food that’s full of fat and sugar. Interestingly, nutrition bars are one of the few foods that started out in space and made their way back to earth. However, thanks to the food trends, fads and stacks of misinformation, there are countless nutrition myths floating around.Food is more nutritious than conventional fareTruth: This is pure humbug.

The lists of proclaimed "superfoods” and "harmful foods” seem to change on a weekly basis — leading to further confusion. Calorie requirements only increase marginally during pregnancy. Moreover, if raw kale is not digested well, it could cause bloating and also affect vitals organs like heart and kidney because of its high levels of potassium. Are organic foods better than regular ones? Will eating carbs at night make you fat? We all hunger for nutrition advice, but not all the advice you hear is worth believing. So portion size does matter. So what”s with the colour? White-feathered chickens lay white eggs. "When hunger strikes focus on good nutrition like nuts, vegetables, fruits, good fats and complex carb just like a non-pregnant woman. It’s something we should all have a good understanding of. Dr Hooda stresses that meeting nutrient needs like calcium and folic acid are crucial in pregnancy. "Unless you suffer from a celiac disease or a gluten sensitivity, there is no need to avoid wheat in your diet. One reason brown eggs tend to cost more is because hens that lay brown eggs are usually larger and eat more food than hens that lay white eggs. Protein keeps hunger at bay, and the fibre and water in the plant foods help to fill us up. They also contain lot of caffeine which tends to dehydrate you. Even the greens atop beets which we cut off and throw in the garbage pack more nutrition. It belongs to the family of brassica oleracea. "Eating at night has long been associated with weight gain. What matters are the total calories you take in. "Kale is not a superfood. Watching portions is the key, even when eating nutritious foods. So let’s look at popular nutrition myths and misunderstandings and the truth behind them

The problem with a lot of Indians is that they follow a vegetarian diet or hardly opt for meat,” she explains. Add in a squeeze of lemon, and some black salt or honey for taste. She says, "You have food that is rich in fibre, like whole grains and legumes, which increase the fibre levels and HDL (good cholesterol) and reduces harmful cholesterol or LDL.‘Mediterranean foods are packed with antioxidants’Tripti GuptaNutrition and lifestyle consultant Tripti Gupta explains that a fruit and vegetable-heavy diet like the Mediterranean diet is perfect for a summer cleanse. Mix an olive oil and lemon vinaigrette dressing, and toss it all together for a salad, which will be inclusive of all the food groups. The month of May has been celebrated as the Mediterranean Diet Month since the past five years by a Boston based NGO, Oldways. Nutritionists tell us how you cancustomise the exotic spread to suit your city.”She goes on to explain that while many Mediterranean food items are considered rare or exotic in India, there are easy substitutes. Niti, however, does believe that the month of May is a great time for trying out a new diet plan. Nutritionists tell us how you cancustomise the exotic spread to suit your city. "While I would not recommend completely substituting the Indian diet with a Mediterranean one, I think that it’s a great plan to look into for a week-long summer cleanse. Unlike restrictive fad diets, the Mediterranean way of eating is simple and wholesome, claim its makers.‘A fibre rich diet is always recommended’Khushboo SahijwaniFitness expert Khushboo Sahijwani, fully advocates the Mediterranean diet.Recipe: Khusboo suggests a pasta salad cooked with whole grain pasta.”Recipe:She suggests a great summer-friendly Mediterranean drink which anyone with a mixer and an access to the local market can make.A summer culinary ritual —The Mediterranean Diet Month is here. Just boil the pasta, toss it with olive oil and blanched vegetables like mushrooms, bell peppers and zucchini for fibre and vitamins.”She adds, "Promoting healthy oils like canola or olive oil instead of refined oils, and light, lean meats like fish and chicken instead of red meat which is recommended only about once a month, is bound to make for a great diet,” Khushboo explains.‘Summers are a good time for lighter dishes’Niti DesaiNutritionist Niti Desai advises addingMediterranean elements to the diet rather than swapping the desi one for it. While Mumbai is far-removed from the coastal paradise of the Mediterranean countries, nutritionists believe that many aspects of their diet could be beneficial for a Mumbaikar

The matter has been fixed for hearing on May 17.Russia&hex nut Manufacturers39;s VTB Capital-backed NuMetal Ltd has challenged a lower company court order allowing rival ArcelorMittal to clear bank dues of associate companies so that it can become eligible for acquisition of Essar Steel.

NuMetal sought setting aside and quashing of the NCLT order that directed the resolution professional (RP) conducting the auction and the committee of creditors of Essar Steel India Ltd to "reconsider the resolution plan submitted by Arcelor Mittal India Pvt Ltd and afford Arcelor Mittal India Ltd an opportunity to make payment of the over dues amount of Uttam Galva Steels Ltd and KSS Petron Pvt Ltd after the submission of the resolution plan for Essar Steel and cure the ineligibility". In the petition, NuMetal said the Ahmedabad-bench of National Company Law Tribunal had disqualified Arcelor Mittal India Ltd from bidding to acquire Essar Steel on grounds that it was a promoter company of firms that had defaulted on payment of bank loans.

The NCLT had, however, "erred" in permitting ArcelorMittal India Ltd "to cure the ineligibility by making payment of the overdue amounts of Uttam Galva and KSS Petron" within 30 days, it said. If you are seeking a simple air purifier for your car

While the HEPA filter can take care of dust as tiny as PM2.. Let’s check out some of the pros first, and later move down to the cons.Status/monitoring: There is no information on the unit as to power or pollution /purification levels.Below the filter is a suction fan. It promises to purify the air you breathe inside the car’s cabin whilst on your journey.

The filter here is also pretty small. It blocks odour, gases and also traps finer particles and gases. The product is simple to operate and deploy but is not smart enough to inform you about the pollution levels. It is a simple unit with a fan and filter. Unless your car has a cigarette lighter port on the rear seat, we see this as a problem.

However, not all dashboards are flat and the unit could slip off or not fit at all. Kent should have provided the splitter arrangement in the unit itself. The air trapped inside the car is also filled with dangerous gases that were let in when the doors and windows were open.Power: While this draws 12V of power from your car, it occupies the car’s cigarette lighter port. The air purification works. When air is passed through this filter, you can be sure that the filters work their way to reduce dust, gases and odours. There is no wall/ceiling mount either, which could help place the unit out of the way for the driver to concentrate on his driving. The lighter port connector features a toggle switch with three positions.

If you are seeking a simple air purifier for your car, then Kent’s Magic Hepa Car Air Purifier at Rs 2,997 (discounted period) is a steal, but at the original MRP of Rs 7,999, it is pretty expensive.Noise: yes, the unit is noisy, especially when set to high. While this could be good enough for those who drive for around 2 – 3 hours at a stretch, it is useless for those who have shorter rides. However, we failed to spot the ionizer inside the air purifier as the unit looks like a simple filter-fan assembly and nothing more. Kent claims that this is a specially treated activated carbon filter that effectively absorbs any odour/foul smell in the air, volatile organic compounds, oxides of sulphide and nitrogen, hydrocarbons, cigarette smoke, dust, pet odour, etc. Usual air purifiers at home need replacements in around 180 days, but in the case of a car air purifier, you may have to change them sooner, depending on your usage. Either a splitter or a USB port on the unit/adapter would have helped out the consumer.

Air purifier inside the car can promise better air quality whilst you are driving on a polluted road. Kent has also not mentioned the replacement time or life with regards to the filter. However, with the AC turned on, the air purification is also handled partially by the AC cabin filter, which helps to reduce the dust at a faster rate. Air is sucked in from the top, which is forced through a HEPA filter and clean air is then let out through the bottom.Lastly, you cannot use this air purifier without the air conditioner turned on, unless you live in a colder place and won’t need the AC at all. The unit is a no-brainer to operate and is kept very simple. And what can help here is an air purifier that can efficiently do the job. Using this air purifier, you will have to sacrifice your car’s phone charging, or any other accessory you may be using in the car that needs the cigarette lighter port. This would force you to place the unit near the hand brake or on the rear seat, pushing the power cord to distract you when using the gears. It retails for Rs 7,999 and comes with a single filter and a power cord. The purifier has no intelligence, whatsoever. It helps reduce the number of dust particles inside the China hexagonal nut Manufacturers cabin to a large extent. So if you are a person, who smokes, or likes to keep the windows down whilst driving, this product is useless for you.Mounting: the unit has four rubber pegs that help you place it on your dashboard. Lastly, we still don’t know how much it costs.

Usual air purifiers indicate the air quality, but here you don’t know what are the levels pre and post using the unit. Filters need to be replaced on time as they have a said life when their saturation levels are nearing. The unit has no LEDs that denote its power status, and neither is there any sensor inside the unit that helps automate the purification. Also, the air purification totally depends on the area it is placed. This trapped air needs to be filtered too. A power socket is provided on the rear bottom end which plugs into the car’s cigarette lighter port. Well, while it could be partially right, it is definitely not true. However, the purifier is ineffective if you keep the windows down, open the doors multiple times, or have a short journey lesser than half an hour or so.Kent RO had recently launched an air purifier for cars and we tested one on the go. However, doing so could also make your car look ugly within.Performance: This air purifier can be used only if you have all the windows rolled up. It takes around 15 – 20 minutes (at least) to clean the entire air inside the cabin. As for the performance, we found this air purifier to be pretty effective, but there were concerns about the product’s use and the way it would be used by the end user.

The air purifier has a small filter and has a CADR rate of 25m3/hour. It effects differently at different places —dashboard, front seat, rear seat, centre of all seats, etc.Kent also mentions that the air purifier features an ionizer to further help improve the air quality.Cons:Filter: While the filter seems effective, we were unable to find a replacement filter online. The noise levels, though not as loud, can be pretty disturbing if you are not used to unwanted noises inside the cabin.Verdict:The Kent Magic Hepa Car air purifier is a great product to have in your car. Passengers inside a car think that rolling up the windows and turning on the air conditioners can keep them safe from the pollution that is outside. It is around 5-inches (squarish in size). Toggling left and right increases/decreases the fan’s speed while leaving it in the centre switches it off. The top of the unit has a door that houses the HEPA filter.5, the activated carbon ensures that the air is free from more than dust.

The moment you roll down the window or open a door, you let polluted air inside the cabin and the air purifier starts the entire process all over again. Kent Magic Hepa Car Air Purifier is a simple no brainer car air purification solution and is priced at an MRP of Rs 7,999.Pros:The filter used here is pretty effective. A larger filter helps faster purification and more life. If you are not used to a whizzing fan in your car, then you may find this irritating. You would have to end up buying a cigarette lighter port splitter for your car if you want to use multiple accessories in the car. This means, if you are opening the door for multiple passengers during the journey, or if you are opening the window to pay for tolls, you are indirectly hitting the performance of the purifier. And neither Kent has featured filter replacements on their website. The Kent Magic Hepa Car air purifier is a simple tiny air purifier that is about the size of a small school lunch box.

The air purifier has absolutely no buttons or control panel and does not have any display or LEDs. How did it fair and is it as effective? Let’s check it out. Apparently, while this review was being written, we saw a limited period offer and the unit was being sold for as cheap as Rs 2,997 on Amazon. Kent has used a HEPA-based filter that also features activated carbon granules. It features vents on the top and bottom that channel the air through the built-in HEPA filter. There could have been a wireless communication to a smartphone app and the consumer could finally know important information such as air quality, power status, speed, filter stats and alike. Rating: With an increasing number of cars on the road today, it only speaks about the number of commuters that are out on the streets

The main thing is this uses the natural abundance of nitrogen isotopes

We feel the technique can be a diagnostic tool as well as possibly developing targeted therapies. One bond in the field of Chemistry, albeit between two professors, has stirred excitement in the scientific world as the duo has discovered a new technique in diagnosis of cancer cells, an important breakthrough which holds the potential for development of targeted therapies to combat the disease. In this, stable isotopes are arguably the best tracers. But matter in all forms is about how atoms and molecules are glued by a variety of bonds. R.

It is especially true for cancerous cells. For, these professors, who disclose this is a small but vital step in cancer research, are Prof R V Krishnamurthy and Prof Prof Karim Essani, a Kerala-born chemist and a biologist from Karachi, both faculty at the Western Michigan University, USA.He said in an email interview: "Nitrogen is particularly attractive since most transformation of amino acids involve nitrogen rather than carbon”.

An essential amino acid on the other hand has to be supplemented by diet. In their novel approach, the professors looked at the nitrogen isotope ratios of individual amino acids. Stable and radioactive isotopes of carbon are used extensively medical research but generally using material artificially enriched in the heavier isotope.V. And, isotopes are atoms wholesale metric nut of the same element that differ in the nuclear mass which influences physical and chemical reaction rates. Once we met we were nostalgic about our background and realized how similar we were in our upbringing and cultural back ground. He is widely recognized for his work on the use of viruses in cancer therapy.

The outcome of their research was published in Scientific Reports, a Nature Group publication, recently. Beyond the realm of scientific research, this unique bond as well as the discovery of a new method to distinguish between healthy cells and cancerous cells has kindled admiration because it turns the geopolitical situation in the sub-continent on its head. He read a press release about me in the campus newspaper and felt I was the right person to pursue his idea of using isotopes in cancer research. Based on this study, it is too early to compare with other methods. Krishnamurthy, Prof. We talked about movie songs, Gazals and at one time sat together and watched briefly the Champion’s trophy between India and Pakistan on Prof Krishnamurthy’s computer!

I was watching cricket after decades,” says Prof Karim Essani. The research by this group revealed that Glutamic acid metabolism is different in cancerous cells than in healthy cells.Prof Krishnamurthy, who is an isotope chemist specializing in earth science, says: "I have studied isotope ratios in amino acids extracted from meteorites in the past and extending it to medical research, particularly cancer, had been on the back of my mind for a while for a long time, but I could not proceed until I found the right collaborator in Prof Karim who is a professor in our biology department and an expert in virology. Karim Essani and Dr.Prof Krishnamurthy and Prof Karim Essani concur: "carbon, hydrogen, oxygen and nitrogen are part of all life forms and biochemical reactions involving them are of paramount interest.

The scientists analyzed the nitrogen isotope ratios in individual amino acids in healthy and cancerous cool rectal cancer cells and showed that by using nitrogen isotopes one can get information on the metabolism of amino acids in cancerous cells. Since we are not a commercial lab, I can’t talk about a cost analysis. They focused on Glutamic acid which is a non-essential amino acid meaning it can be made in the body. For a change, it’s not a nail-biting India vs Pakistan cricket outing, but a team effort by an Indian chemist and a Pakistani biologist, which has stirred much excitementChemistry is all about studying matter. Prof. For one thing our focus was on how certain amino acids are used by cancerous cells when compared to healthy cells.”So the bond could only get stronger in future!. The amino acids are the essential building blocks of proteins and an understanding of how the amino acids are used by cells is of great importance.”And these two professors bond so well that their camaraderie extends to discussions on movie songs, Gazals, and of course cricket. "”Although Prof Krishnamurthy and I have been working in the same campus for over 25 years we met only when he came up with this project idea.

The main thing is this uses the natural abundance of nitrogen isotopes. These professors used the natural abundance of stable nitrogen isotopes to investigate amino acid metabolism in human colorectal cancer cells. The outcome of their research was published in Scientific Reports, a Nature Group publication, recently. The full ramifications of this technique is too early to emphasize. We are exploring the possibility of applying this with other cancer types.

We were also fortunate to involve Dr Yogesh Suryawanshi who is a doctoral student with additional MBBS degree”.Prof Krishnamurthy explained: "The research involved creation of healthy and cancerous cells and extracting individual amino acids from these for isotope analysis. Most often, these atoms and molecules stay fastened on their own, but sometimes connect under high pressure or temperature. Yogesh Suryawanshi
